MLTAV Mentoring Project

The MLTAV Mentoring for Beginning Teachers of Languages Project, supported by the Victorian Government, Department of Education and Training, has been helping new language teachers since 2005.

The Mentoring Project facilitates the mentoring of beginning teachers of Languages by an experienced teacher of the same language. This 18-month project is an excellent mechanism for supporting new teachers of Languages but also offers experienced teachers of Languages leadership opportunities in their role as a mentor. Mentoring project participants attend a workshop at the MLTAV Conference each year, engage in collegiate classroom visits and have regular online contact to respond to the needs of the beginning teacher.

The Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) showcased the program in the June edition of VITs eNews. VIT visited MLTAVs latest Mentoring Project workshop, held at the MLTAV Annual Conference in May, and spoke to a mentor (Kathleen Duquemin) and Mentee (Nicole ) about how the project has helped their practice.
